Summerhill was founded by A.S Neill in Germany in 1921 and arrived in Leiston in 1927, taking up residence in “Newhaven", the house that Richard Garrett built for his family. Although controversial, Leiston and Summerhill have a long relationship and through Summerhill the name of Leiston has become known world-wide.

Everyone is welcome; admission costs £1 for members and £3 for non-members, including coffee/tea and biscuits.

This is the first time the Family History Group has met at Knodishall Village Hall. We look forward to welcoming you to what promises to be a most interesting afternoon in the hands of another entertaining speaker.

7.30pm Suffolk Libraries Presents: The Phantom of the Opera: Film with Live Music

Minima perform original live soundtracks to silent films, including the 1925 version of 'The Phantom of the Opera' and give a 21st-Century interpretation of the images of silent film.

Beneath the sewers of the Paris Opera House dwells a masked figure. He is the Phantom, a hideously disfigured composer whose dream is to turn chorus singer Christine into a diva. Lon Chaney, the “Man of a Thousand Faces”, dominates this classic adaptation of the 1910 novel. His ghastly make-up and outrageous performance made this one of the great classics of American silent film.

Formed in 2006, Minima are a Bristol-based four-piece group, with instrumentation including cello, double bass, baritone guitar, acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, autoharp, dulcimer, synthesizer, glockenspiel and drum kit. Their sound is uncompromising and unique; in performance they use no backing tracks or pre-recorded material.
